FAQ's
1. How much does it cost to move a house, building?
Answer: This depends on the size of the structure, equipment involved and the time frame of the job.
2. Does my homeowners insurance cover my house during construction?
Answer: Some insurance companies may extend coverage. It is best to notify your insurance company of your intentions. Continental Building Movers Ltd. provides liability coverage only. Cargo insurance may be provided to the owner at an additional cost.
3. Do I need to remove the contents in my home?
Answer: It is not necessary to remove the contents in your home. Fragile items should be packed in boxes.
4. How much damage occurs when the house is being raised and moved?
Answer: Stress cracks will occur on the plaster & drywall, mostly over doorways. This can be repaired inexpensively. Settling will occur when the building is placed over the new foundation just as any normal house would.
5. What is the size limit in moving a structure & how far can a building be moved?
Answer: We can move just about any size building. Unless it’s an on site move an oversized building in height will involve utility companies to escort us on the move. This can be expensive to do and may not be feasible to some. Also taking into consideration the width of the building, will it fit down the road etc.
6. What preparations do I need to do before the mover starts the job?
Answer: All services need to be disconnected, electrical, plumbing, duct work &sewer. The basement must be cleared of belongings.
7. Do you install basements?
Answer: We can subcontract the basement for the homeowner or if you wish you may subcontract this on you own. We also can provide you with reputable business contacts. This contractor will work with me to prepare the foundation so the house can be placed on it properly.
8. What permits are required in order to move my building?
Answer: An oversized building requires by law, permission from all Counties, Cities, Townships and MTO roads that may be involved in the move. This requires permits and police escorts and some times utility companies to assist us on the move. Fees are charged in most if not all cases for these services.
9. What is included and not included in your price?
Answer: Supplying all equipment and labour to raise, move and set down onto the new foundation is included in our price. Permits & escorts are an additional cost. A written quote will be provided to you explaining what is included in the price of the job.
10. In what area do you operate?
Answer: Southwestern Ontario.
11. How do I get a quote?
Answer: You may contact us by phone, fax or email. Send us a picture of the structure and the dimensions of the building, where it is located and where it going to be moved. Provide us with contact information and we will be happy to provide you with a quote. Or simply call us and we will set up an appointment to meet with you on site.
